IBM AND SAPIENS INTERNATIONAL SIGN EQUITY AND SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT
 AGREEMENTS
PURCHASE, N.Y., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- International Business Machines Corporation (NYSE: IBM) and Sapiens International Corporation today announced that IBM will acquire an equity position in Sapiens International, a software company with U.S. headquarters in Cary, N.C. The firms also announced the signing of a software development assistance agreement.
Sapiens develops, markets and supports SAPIENS(see Note B), a rule- based, object-based technology for creating and implementing business applications on IBM mainframes. Sapiens uses rapid application development techniques to significantly increase productivity and reduce maintenance time.
The software development assistance agreement emphasizes both companies' commitment to expanding the set of application development tools supporting IBM's AD/Cycle(Note A). AD/Cycle is IBM's framework to speed and simplify application development. As part of this agreement, Sapiens will extend its client-server product, SAPIENS Workstation, to the OS/2(A) platform. Sapiens has already announced their intent to develop and produce applications directly from information stored in IBM's Repository Manager/MVS(A).
"IBM and Sapiens have enjoyed a very successful relationship to date," said Earl F. Wheeler, IBM senior vice president and general manager, programming systems. "We expect this expansion of our relationship to benefit our mutual customers as Sapiens and IBM strengthen their collaboration within the AD/Cycle framework."
"We are very pleased with IBM's recognition of our unique approach to rapid development of mainframe applications," said Shaul Shani, CEO and chairman of Sapiens International Corporation. "Sapiens has enjoyed significant growth in the past few years. We believe these two new agreements will support our ability in solving customer problems," continued Shani.
In the United States, both IBM and Sapiens have been marketing SAPIENS since August of 1991. The two companies also have marketing agreements in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom.
