IBM AND KNOWLEDGEWARE INC. EXPAND AD/CYCLE ALLIANCE
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced an expanded alliance with KnowledgeWare Inc. (NASDAQ: KNOW) in which the two companies will market integrated products that address the complete application software development process.
IBM and KnowledgeWare have both marketed several of the Atlanta- based software maker's products since 1989 when KnowledgeWare became one of IBM's original three business partners for AD/Cycle(A), IBM's framework to speed and simplify the development of business applications.
With today's announcement, IBM and KnowledgeWare have agreed to expand their marketing agreements to include all of KnowledgeWare's Application Development Workbench(B) (ADW/B/) products. This will provide an AD/Cycle solution for customers seeking an integrated family of tools to address each part of the application development process or life-cycle, from business model development through application generation to redevelopment of existing software systems.
In addition, the two companies have agreed that KnowledgeWare will integrate its ADW family of tools with IBM's workgroup-based application development environment, when it is commercially available.
"This agreement addresses customer requirements for an integrated, full application development solution within the AD/Cycle open framework," said Earl F. Wheeler, IBM senior vice president and general manager, programming systems. "In addition, both companies are committed to IBM's workgroup-based application development direction and are working closely to ensure KnowledgeWare's family of tools integrate within the environment. We will enhance the investment that customers make today in AD/Cycle tools by adding the workgroup support and data sharing capabilities of the IBM application development environment."
"These agreements show our commitment to AD/Cycle support for the 4,000 customers and 70 independent software vendor and consultant products who view ADW as a standard for application development technology," said Don Addington, KnowledgeWare's president and chief operating officer. "We are working closely with IBM to ensure that our ADW solution and the IBM application development environment will bring value to our customers."
"KnowledgeWare is committed to IBM's workgroup-based application development environment and we will support the standard IBM information model," said KnowledgeWare Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Officer Michael A. Ryan. "We are also working with IBM to define extensions to the model in support of the ADW full life-cycle solution. Our goal is to ensure the delivery of an open, available and documented data model which supports full life-cycle development and promotes data interchange."
KnowledgeWare is a member of the International Alliance for AD/Cycle. IBM will continue to work closely with the other members of the Alliance; Bachman Information Systems, Inc., Digitalk, Inc., Easel Corporation, Micro Focus, Sapiens International Corp., Synon Corporation and VIASOFT, Inc.
