IBM AND DIGITAL OFFER JOINT BUSINESS RECOVERY SERVICES
 TO SUPPORT CUSTOMERS DURING DISASTERS
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. and MAYNARD, Mass., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Digital Equipment Corp. (NYSE: DEC) today announced an agreement to market and provide cooperative support to IBM Business Recovery Services' customers and Digital Business Protection Services' customers operating in mixed IBM and Digital environments. Under the agreement, if a mutual customer experiences an unplanned business interruption, IBM and Digital together will provide the necessary recovery services to restore systems and maintain availability to end users.
"This arrangement comes from our respective companies' desires to deliver to customers the most complete solutions possible," said Ed Carreiro, director, Business Recovery Services, at Integrated Systems Solutions Corp., a wholly owned IBM subsidiary. "For many of our customers, the most efficient and economical way to accomplish this is to ensure that Digital's skills and resources are involved from the start."
"Digital and IBM have the experience, service delivery capabilities and technology to provide critical support to customers during a systems interruption," said Ralph Selle, U.S. manager, Business Protection Services, at Digital. "Our goal is to meet our mutual customers' needs through comprehensive solutions."
The agreement enables disaster recovery customers to recover both the IBM and Digital components of their information system through a single point of contact. The agreement also provides IBM and Digital 24-hour access to each others' recovery centers across the United States. At present, IBM's Franklin Lakes, N.J., Business Recovery Center is networked with Digital's RESTART Recovery Center in Parsippany, N.J. Additional sites will be linked in the future.
Both IBM and Digital sales representatives will offer this service, which is available immediately, to existing and prospective IBM and Digital business recovery customers throughout the United States.
"The mutual disaster recovery response offered by IBM and Digital provides a level of protection that we really need," said Dave Reiger, Disaster Recovery Coordinator for Executive Life Insurance Company. "IBM and Digital supply much of our equipment and their combined effort delivers high-level technical support that best meets our backup and recovery needs."
IBM and Digital both offer a complete portfolio of disaster recovery services, including contingency planning, hotsites, relocation services, facilities design and construction, environmental products and equipment repair or replacement.
Digital is a trademark of Digital Equipment Corporation and RESTART is a service mark of Digital Equipment Corporation.
