IBM AND CANDLE CORPORATION TO DEVELOP SYSTEMVIEW PRODUCTS
                         FOR THE AS/400 SYSTEM
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM Corporation (NYSE: IBM) today announced that IBM and Candle Corporation, a member of the IBM International Alliance for SystemView (see Note A), will jointly develop systems management products for the Application System/400(A) (AS/400(A)) platform.
Together, IBM and Candle will develop products for resource monitoring and automated remote operations for a stand-alone AS/400 system and for a network hosted by an AS/400 or a System/390(A) (S/390(A)) processor. These products will meet key AS/400 customer requirements for automated operations and a consistent graphical end-user interface on systems management solutions.
SystemView, announced in September 1990, is IBM's structure for helping customers bring consistency and automation to the management of their enterprise-wide information systems, including systems comprising hardware and software from IBM and other vendors. It is based on Systems Application Architecture(A) and open systems standards, such as Open Systems Interconnection.
The IBM International Alliance for SystemView, announced in September 1991, is a relationship between IBM and selected software vendors to develop and market SystemView-conforming products. Alliance members have agreed to work with IBM to integrate some of their existing systems management products into the SystemView structure. Candle Corporation has committed to make nearly 20 of its products that run on IBM's S/390 platform consistent with SystemView.
