IBM'S MULTIMEDIA PUBLISHING STUDIO FORMS SOFTWARE ALLIANCE WITH IBM JAPAN COUNTERPART

ATLANTA, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Atlanta-based IBM Multimedia Publishing Studio has announced the formation of a software publishing and development alliance with its Japanese counterpart, the IBM Multimedia Creative Center based in Tokyo.
Working together, the creative and technical teams for both multimedia units will develop and market CD-ROM software titles for wide ranging markets in Japan and the U.S., including business, education, public information and the arts.
Hiroshi Nishikawa, manager of IBM Japan's Multimedia Creative Center, said the alliance with the established Multimedia Publishing Studio in Atlanta will provide his center immediate access to the U.S. studio's production facilities, creative and development talents and marketing channels in the U.S.
The Atlanta-based Multimedia Publishing Studio operates within IBM's recently formed Fireworks Partners, a separate IBM business unit.
The studio is a key supplier of software products for the multimedia publishing industry, developing and publishing interactive programs for large and small systems users in schools, in industry and in the home.
Dr. Paul Evans, the studio's managing publisher, said the new alliance with IBM Japan's Multimedia Creative Center creates new opportunities and adds to the studio's existing relationships with Japanese companies.
In the fall of 1992, the Multimedia Publishing Studio entered into a joint agreement with the Sony Corporation and has produced a dozen new software titles for use on Sony's new Multimedia CD-ROM XA (Extended Architecture) Player.
The Studio also is marketing more than 100 software titles from some of the foremost developers in the U.S., through its catalog and direct mail marketing program.
Evans said the alliance between IBM's multimedia units in the U.S. and Japan will create a synergy that will enhance future growth and establish a greater presence in the international multimedia market.
