IBM'S(R) ALTIUM(TM) SHIPS NEW PRODUCT FOR PAPERLESS COMMUNICATION

BURBANK, Calif., June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- A paperless environment is the goal of many corporations because it electronically streamlines the communication process across departments or geographies -- reducing cycle time and money. IBM's desktop subsidiary ALTIUM announced today that it is shipping its MICRO CADAM(R) software for viewing and red- lining engineering drawings. MICRO CADAM VIEW dramatically reduces the number of blueprints and drawings that must be generated during the engineering and manufacturing process. It increases a corporation's productivity by providing a large number of employees with direct access to the MICRO CADAM database.
Users can operate MICRO CADAM VIEW from inexpensive DOS computers which are operating on the same network as engineers using powerful UNIX workstations from IBM, Sun Microsystems or Hewlett-Packard Co. This allows drawings to be accessed and displayed in seconds in areas such as document control, manufacturing, checking, sales and quality assurance. Field sales and corporate executives can demonstrate their designs on a portable computer installed with MICRO CADAM VIEW. Like the rest of the MICRO CADAM product family, MICRO CADAM VIEW is interoperable and 100 percent compatible across hardware environments and operating systems.
"In 1993, ALTIUM will announce and release its most aggressive solutions for engineers and designers across the enterprise," said ALTIUM's President Lee Murray. "We are pleased to welcome the MICRO CADAM VIEW product to our mechanical design family."
MICRO CADAM VIEW will be released simultaneously on computers supporting the DOS operating system, and on workstations manufactured by IBM and Sun Microsystems. VIEW will ship on Hewlett-Packard workstations in July, and on Silicon Graphics workstations during the third quarter. VIEW lists for U.S. $750. Support contracts are available for $250 per year.
Originally designed by engineers at the Lockheed Corp., ALTIUM products have since been used to design products ranging from intricate piece parts to airplanes. In 1990, the IBM Corp. acquired CADAM Inc. (ALTIUM's former identity) from Lockheed. This innovative, non- hierarchical organization's revenue grew 20 percent last year, despite the worldwide recession.
ALTIUM's corporate headquarters is located at 1935 N. Buena Vista St., Burbank, CA 91504, or by phone, 818-841-9470 or 800-458-7695.
