IBEW helps out Katrina victims.

Members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 164 have donated $10,000 to the Brotherhood's Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. The funds will be used to provide short- and long-term assistance to union members and other residents who have lost homes and jobs as a result of the storm.

"Our hearts go out to those who have suffered so much in this calamity," said Richard Dressel, business manager for IBEW Local 164. "I am so proud of all our members for their generous donations and offers of support."

IBEW International president Ed Hill initiated the Brotherhood's Relief Fund. According to Hill, the IBEW's focus will be on its members, but efforts will aid the communities at large and be part of a larger effort to help all affected by the storm. The IBEW has already sent supplies and dispatched representatives to the affected areas.

Local 164 has a strong history of community outreach efforts.
