IBERIA NAMES NEW VICE PRESIDENT OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
MIAMI, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Iberia Airlines of Spain has

appointed Luis Palacio as the new vice president of business development for the Iberia Group. Palacio will be based in Miami and will report directly to Arturo Cardelus, director general of Iberia Intercontinental.
As vice president of Iberia's special business unit, Palacio will be responsible for the development and coordination of the cooperative relationship among airlines in the Iberia Group. Included in this group are Aerolineas Argentinas, the Chilean airline Ladeco and the Venezuelan airlines Viasa. Palacio will also explore new business ventures for the entire Iberia Group.
Palacio joins Iberia with more than 30 years of experience in the travel industry. Most recently, he served as director of interline sales, industry and government affairs for Eastern Airlines, where he interacted with leading officials in both the public and private sectors.
Palacio, an FAA licensed pilot, began his professional career at Eastern in 1959. He progressed through various positions with the carrier, including director of marketing for Latin America and director of international marketing, worldwide. His impressive track record and history of accomplishments have earned him a solid reputation in the travel industry.
"Palacio's vast international marketing and sales experience will allow him to develop innovative business plans for the Iberia Group," said Nicolas Canto de Andres, vice president and general manager of Iberia Airlines, U.S.A. & Canada. "His knowledge and familiarity with international and domestic markets, along with his superior leadership skills, will help create exciting new opportunities for our group."
Iberia's new appointment is part of an overall effort by the Spanish carrier to aid the local economy by hiring Dade County residents. The airline plans to continue hiring local residents as it expands its presence in South Florida.
Iberia Airlines recently moved its U.S. headquarters from Los Angeles to Miami and created a hub operation to better service its European and Latin American route systems. The national airline of Spain is currently adding new destinations and routes to its Latin American schedule in order to enhance its pre-eminent position in this region.
