IAS extends ground handling contract.

Iberia Airport Services (IAS), the Spanish airline's ground handling unit, has extended its contract to provide airport services to carrier Germanwings.

The contract, renewed for a two-year period, covers ramp services to aircraft at Palma de Majorca and Malaga airports, and the handling of both aircraft and passengers at Bilbao, Ibiza and Mahon.

The unit reports it handled more than 2,000 Germanwings operations in Spain last year and expects this to increase in 2013, as the airline is playing a new role in the short-and medium-haul routes of the Lufthansa Group.

More than 200 airlines at Spanish airports are served by AS and foreign customers account for some 85% of the division's revenues at all Spanish airports, except Iberia's main Madrid-Barajas hub. It operates at 39 Spanish airports plus Tel Aviv in Israel and the cities of Malabo and Bata in Equatorial Guinea.
