IAM to sue Boeing Co over outsourcing.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), the largest employee representative at US aircraft manufacturer Boeing Co, is reportedly suing the company over plans to shift hundreds of jobs to non-union contractors in the USA and Italy.

The IAM is accusing Boeing of violating a contractual obligation to give 180 days notice before such decisions and to allow time for the union to suggest alternatives. A spokesperson for the union stated on 1 May, 'We want an injunction that stops subcontracting and offloading of any work by employees covered by our agreement,' Reuters reported.

A spokesperson for Boeing stated that the company had not yet seen the lawsuit, but maintained that the company believes it has met all its contractual obligations.
