IAM formally objects to TWA sale to American Airlines.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has lodged a formal objection to American Airlines' bid to acquire Trans World Airlines (TWA).

The IAM stated on 1 March that the sale agreement between the two carriers does not fully disclose the terms and conditions of the proposed offer of employment for TWA employees represented by IAM. The union also claims that TWA and American Airlines have avoided requests for further information, Reuters reported.

The IAM represents some 16,000 employees at TWA, including mechanics and related workers, flight attendants and customer service staff.
