I-79 ROADSIDE REST STOP TO RECEIVE STATEWIDE AWARD FOR EXCELLENT SERVICE, ON WEDNESDAY

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The roadside rest stop on southbound Interstate 79 in Bridgeville will receive a statewide award for excellent service this Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 9:30 a.m. at the facility.
A number of state officials from Harrisburg and the PennDOT Engineering District 11-0 will participate in the ceremony.
This is the second time the Interstate 79 rest stop has received a statewide honor; in 1992, it was awarded first in its category in PennDOT's "Excellence in Highway Design" competition for the $5 million renovation and expansion of both the southbound and northbound facilities.
One of only four such stations statewide to receive the 1992 "PennDOT Roadside Rest Outstanding Service Award," the I-79 facility was selected on the basis of questionnaire results from motorists who cited such things as cleanliness, staff efficiency, and adequate parking, picnic and pet facilities as consistently above average.
Forty-three roadside rest stops in the commonwealth, all located on interstate highways, provide travellers with opportunities to rest, freshen up and snack. Many have specially designated pet-walking areas. Last year, the department spent more than $6 million on renovation and maintenance of these facilities. Included among roadside rest stops are nine Welcome Centers, located on Pennsylvania's borders with neighboring states and considered an important factor in tourism, the commonwealth's second leading industry. Welcome Centers are open during daylight hours to provide travellers with information about directions and interesting attractions. Roadside rest stops are open round-the-clock.
