In order to do the test I had to be assessed on the phone to ensure I understood the implications of potentially being told I was at a high risk of a disease that I couldn''t do anything to prevent. I was then sent a consent form to sign.

The test itself was easy to do - a quick cheek swab. I then had to wait eight weeks for theresults. It was a huge relief to discover that I didn't appear to be at an elevated risk of Alzheimer''s, although some of my other results have given me food for thought.

And I''ve an above-average risk of suffering from osteoporosis as I get older, so I plan to keep up my high intake of milk for calcium, and continue exercising to keep my bones strong.
