I can do that!: Christmas with the sharks.

THE ECHO presses roll again next week with your action-packed Christmas I can do that! magazine - and what a fantastic package we've lined up.

Apart from all your usual favourites, we're zooming in on mechanic and wheelchair basketball player Mark Townley, who is determined to have a real cracker of a Christmas - scuba diving with the big fish off Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

``Two years ago my old pal Joe Woolham took up the sport,'' says 34year-old Mark, who works at Da Vinci Mobility, Gilmoss.

``When I saw Joe featured in I can do that! I thought, ``I can do that, too!''

He did. And after a lot of hard - and cold - training stints, he is ready to make the plunge of his life . . .

``It will be my personal contribution to European Year of People with Disabilities,'' says Mark with a smile.

Apart from 2003 being ``Euro Year'' it is also marks the 20th anniversary of the ECHO's I can do that! column. To mark the occasion we've included an eight-page special section that highlights the many improvements that have been made to help people with disabilities on Merseyside - plus the individual and inspirational achievements of We'll be running Euro-focused features and news items throughout next year, so if you or your group have something to sound off on a Euro theme, then drop us a line and we'll do our best to tell the world!
