.The Distance Helen Giltrow In our series shining the spotlight on emerging authors, Helen takes us under the cover of her hit debut, The Distance.

She said: "Charlotte Alton runs a private espionage network, selling info to criminals. Usually she never gets involved but when a hitman approaches her with an extraordinary job, she realises she must discover why his target has to die - even if it risks her life.

"I first had the idea in 2001 and even gave up my job in education to write it - but then my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and eight years passed before I turned my attention back to it. I was amazed when it sparked a bidding war. 'm now working on a sequel."
