I THINK I MAY BE A LESBIAN OR BISEXUAL; DEAR COLEEN; Ireland's most straight-talking problem page.

Byline: Coleen Nolan

Dear Coleen

I am 21 years old and I have recently started to question my sexuality.

I've had a few brief flirtations with men in the past but it has not progressed any further.

Two of my close friends have recently confided in me that one is lesbian and the other bisexual, and I fully support them in their choices.

But it's also made me question whether I could be bisexual or even lesbian, as I have found myself attracted to both sexes in the past.

I would appreciate any advice you could give me.

Coleen says

Maybe the best people to talk to are your two friends who've come out themselves.

You might be bisexual or gay, but I don't think it's anything to sit and fret over. If your friends have opened up to you, then it's given you the perfect opportunity to confide in them.

Explain that you're confused at the moment and ask them about their own experiences. Hopefully, they will be as supportive of you as you've been of them.

It's not unusual for someone of your age to be bi-curious and experiment with their sexuality.

Why be so keen to put a label on yourself? And I think you will know how you really feel when you meet someone you're strongly attracted to - male or female.

I just don't think you've met that person yet.
