I'M NO SNAKE; Blackadder hits back after party girl splits from lover.
Break-up: New Zealander Christine Maxwell and fiance Steve Timperley called off wedding
SCOTLAND rugby star Todd Blackadder has been blamed for a love split over his close friendship with a sex party hostess.
Edinburgh rugby captain Blackadder met Christine Maxwell while touring Australia with Scotland as assistant coach this summer.
He categorically denies being anything more than friends with Christine, 39.
But her ex-fiance Steve Timperley is now blaming Blackadder for the break-up of their engagement.
He claims his wife-to-be left him to follow Blackadder round the country while he was in Australia.
And Christine, who used to organise Victorian-themed sex parties, claimed the rugby star asked her to visit him in Scotland.
The star, who plays at club level while coaching the national team, gave the woman match tickets and a personalised Scotland jersey.
Timperley says the couple have stayed in contact since the star forward returned to Edinburgh.
And he has a text from 33-year-old Blackadder which reads: 'Sorry but I didn't ask her to come at all... just friends. Steve, sorry mate but didn't know. You guys will never hear from me again.'
The New Zealand-born rugby star, a former captain of the legendary All Blacks, is currently living in Edinburgh while his wife remains in New Zealand.
Blackadder's agent says the star received several messages from Timperley threatening to reveal his wife's friendship with him.
Timperley claims he has split from his lover after arguing about the friendship and called off their wedding - planned for next month.
Real estate agent Timperley said: 'She went to the Gold Coast - I didn't know this, of course - but she went to the Gold Coast where she met Todd and then on to Melbourne and then Sydney.
'I've got messages here on my phone from Todd.
'He met my daughter and son on the Gold Coast, so he is certainly aware of a relationship.
'We were planning on getting married. We have been together 17 years. We had a wedding date and a priest set for November 12.'
Christine's son Ben said: 'I heard the Scotland thing from mum. She turned into a groupie. As soon as she found out he was who he was she couldn't stop talking about him.
'He gave her a load of Scottish clothes with TB on them. She sleeps in them.
Christine said she invited Blackadder to a barbecue as a kind gesture. She claimed that the pair were just friends.
The player's agent David Steel said the former All Blacks international had given Christine tickets and kit as a 'friendly gesture'.
Steel added: 'Todd didn't want to ruin anyone's life.
'The bottom line is that we are staunch that there has been no sexual relationship between Todd and this person. He didn't want to be caught up in any relationship drama between Timperley and Christine.'
Steel said Blackadder gave Christine the Scots uniforms because he had been 20kg over the allowable baggage level for his return flight from Australia.Blackadder's wife Priscilla said: 'I've got nothing to say.'
Blackadder was unavailable for comment at his home in Edinburgh.
