I'll speak my mind at the Aras if elected.

Byline: SAMUEL HAMILTON

MARTIN McGuinness has vowed to be "the most outspoken President in the history of the State" if he moves into the Aras.

He said: "If people think that Mary McAleese's meeting with Queen Elizabeth was exciting, the day that I meet with Queen Elizabeth will be even more exciting."

The Sinn Fein candidate also promised to get rid of the President's plush car for a EUR30,000 model.

But Dragons' Den star Sean Gallagher claimed he was already saving the people money.

BALONEY He said: "Before the election has already concluded, I've started to save the taxpayer money."

But Michael D Higgins branded that a load of baloney.

The Labour candidate raged: "We all get the same refund from the State - EUR200,000 irrespective of how you spend it."

Meanwhile, Independent candidate Mary Davis promised to publish monthly accounts on the Aras website.

She said: "I would extend the Freedom of Information Act to ensure there was full transparency in relation to activities... and I will publish a set of accounts on a monthly basis to let the people see clearly how the money is being spent."

And former Eurovision star Dana, who said she was re-reading the constitution, claimed she would only take part of the salary and give the rest to people in need of help.
