I'VE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH BEST FRIEND; dear coleen; IRELANDS'S MOST STRAIGHT-TALKING PROBLEM PAGE.
I have fallen in love with my best friend.
We dated for about a month before breaking up because, apart from the mindblowing sex, nothing else changed. We still slept around and it was nothing more than friends with benefits.
I found myself becoming jealous of every girl he brought back to our shared apartment and I suppose he was jealous of the men I dated. I don't know what to do.
It's blatantly obvious we love each other but our stubborn old habits just won't go away.
On top of that, I don't want to lose my best friend.
Well, you've crossed that line now from friends to lovers and it's hard to go back. A friends with benefits arrangement only works if you're 100% honest about your feelings for each other.
If you want more, sit down with him and suggest making a proper go of it, which means you don't sleep with other people.
You can't have your cake and eat it, I'm afraid, because someone always ends up getting hurt.
If it doesn't work out between you, maybe you'll have to think about not sharing an apartment - living together will make it very hard for either of you to move on.
