I'M SORRY; Killer writes to chronicle from his prison cell, apologising to victim's family.

KILLER Ryan Leck today begged forgiveness from the family of Andrew Smart.

In a six-page confessional from his cell in Durham Prison, the teenager pours out his heart.

But despite being convicted of murder, he still maintains he never meant to murder down-on-his-luck Mr Smart.

In block capitals, the prisoner wrote: "I know sorry isn't good enough and doesn't quite cut it, but that's all I can do.

"I feel horrible and deeply ashamed of myself, but I can't go back in time to put right my mistake. If I could, I would. I feel so sorry towards his family and children and all I can say is 'sorry'.

"I'm so sorry for his family's loss. I'm paying with the rest of my life now."

Leck and Ryan Saint were convicted at Newcastle Crown Court of Mr Smart's murder. Full story: Page 5
