Hyperion Software Reports Record Third Quarter Results.

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 1998--

Announces Strategic Alliances with J.D. Edwards, CODA and Oberon

Hyperion Software (NASDAQ: HYSW) today reported revenues of $67.4 million and net income of $3.6 million, or $.18 per share, for its third quarter ended March 31, 1998. Revenues rose 33 percent from $50.5 million for the same period of the prior year. Net income rose over 170 percent from $1.3 million, or $.07 per share, for the third quarter of fiscal 1997. License sales of Hyperions budgeting product line increased 104 percent.

Revenues for the first nine months of fiscal 1998 were $197.5 million and net income was $11.4 million, or $.58 per share. Revenues and net income increased 32 percent and 91 percent, respectively, from $149.2 million and $6 million, or $.33 per share, for the corresponding period ended March 31, 1997. Hyperion generated cash of $36.4 million from operating activities and its software sales grew 33 percent for the nine months. Led by strong licensing growth of the companys financial management, budgeting and business analysis products, year-to-date total revenues in the United States rose 33 percent, while international revenues grew 31 percent.

Hyperion has now reported 20 consecutive quarters of profitability. Each quarter has reflected year-over-year revenue growth.

Hyperions clients, which represent a significant percentage of the worlds largest corporations, often operate with a diverse and fragmented set of transaction systems, said Jim Perakis, chairman and CEO of Hyperion. New ERP implementations increase complexity as companies seek to drive business change. Hyperion provides the analytic and information access capabilities that are critical for planning, forecasting, and the development of business strategies.

Approximately 2,200 business, finance and IT professionals are participating in Interact '98, Hyperion's 14th Annual North American User Conference, learning how Hyperion solutions can improve their business performance. The three-day conference, themed Maximum Access, includes 300 technical and product breakout sessions, and the participation of 13 of Hyperions business partners.

As announced yesterday, Hyperion is extending its strategy of working together with leading transactional and enterprise resource planning (ERP) vendors. New alliances with J.D. Edwards, CODA and Oberon complement Hyperion's ongoing partnerships with such companies as Baan and Mincom to provide a broadening range of customers the ability to readily access and analyze the important, underlying details of their businesses.

Hyperion and J.D. Edwards signed a worldwide strategic alliance to integrate Hyperions analytic applications and J.D. Edwards ERP solutions. The alliance also leverages the sales, services and marketing activities of both companies. These activities will include joint sales efforts, Hyperion training for J.D. Edwards field staff, and promotion of the certified interfaces and synergy between the companies solutions. J.D. Edwards will also participate in the Hyperion Alliance Network Referral Program, introducing qualified prospects to the Hyperion sales force. Hyperion will market its products to the J.D. Edwards customer base.

Hyperion also announced a relationship with CODA, a provider of global enterprise accounting systems, which parallels the reseller agreement between Baan and Hyperion. CODA will offer Hyperions analytic applications, including Hyperion Enterprise, Hyperion Pillar and Hyperion MBA, with Hyperion providing training and support for the CODA sales force. In conjunction with the Hyperion-CODA alliance, the existing Hyperion-Baan joint development team will lead the development of a tight integration between the Hyperion and CODA solutions, as well as focus on continued integration between the Hyperion and Baan solutions.

An alliance with Oberon Software was also announced on Monday. Oberon is the leader in a new category of applications called Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) solutions. The relationship with Oberon will enable Hyperion to readily integrate its analytic applications with leading ERP solutions, including those offered by J.D. Edwards and SAP.

Hyperion is featured in a white paper recently published by International Data Corporation (IDC) entitled, Unlocking Better Business Understanding: Hyperion's Analytic Applications. In the paper, IDC lists Hyperion as "the world's leading provider of financially related analytic applications." IDC estimates that the analytic applications market will grow beyond $2.6 billion by 2001.
