Huxley fires up border boys; Mid Wales round-up.

OSWESTRY'S promotion bid in the Birmingham League Division Three was frustrated as Studley looked to dig in for a draw.

Having hauled themselves into third spot, the border men set their sights on another victory and took the initiative by posting a challenging 255-8 declared in a rain-reduced encounter of 44 overs per side.

Alex Huxley top scored with 87 while youngster Robbie Clarke hit 62 not out to help boost the final tally.

Studley never looked likely to reach the target, crawling to 89-4 off 33 overs and on course to salvage a draw to deny their visitors.

Llanidloes, facing near-certain relegation from the FBC Manby Bowdler Shropshire League Division One, batted gamely to post 144-7 against Condover.

Marc Hughes continued his consistent form with 55 not out to provide the platform for the innings.

Welshpool, looking to climb up to mid table after their early season struggles, were battling for a draw against promotion chasing Frankton.

Chasing 182-7, they had reached 130-7 with three overs remaining.

Welshpool 2nds boosted their title prospects in Division Five as they swept aside previous leaders Bridgnorth 3rds by 10 wickets.

Damien Preston took three wickets as Bridgnorth were skittled out for 91 before Nick Davies (42no) and Dave Whitehouse (36no) eased their side to victory.

Oswestry's second string, well placed to land the Birmingham League Reserve Division Two title, were going well against Whitchurch 2nds as they racked up 299-9. The innings was dominated by two batsmen, Owen Johnson top scoring with a fine 112 while Steve Humphreys narrowly missed out on 93.

Oswestry's bowlers then took a grip, with Whitchurch struggling on 128-6 in reply.

And with 17 overs left, there was plenty of time in which to push for the win.
