Hussain claims seniors crown.

HUSSAIN Ayyad as expected won the seniors' title yesterday in the Batelco-Radio Voice Open Rapid Chess Championship at the Oasis Centre in Muharraq.

The second-ranked Hussain's six-game victory run was halted by top-ranked Mohammed Tissir who held him to a draw blacking black. But that half-a-point was enough for Hussain to retain the title and grab the top prize of $1,500.

Hussain, who has an ELO rating of 2,100, finished with 6.5 points while Tissir, with the best ELO rating of 2,800, was half a point behind to share the second spot with Anthony Pelayo and Ahmed Abdullateef. The three received $500 each.

Abdullateef beat Khalil Bukhalaf while Pelayo got the better of Prem Prabhakaran in the seventh and final round.

Ram Bahadur, Maher Ayyad, Ali Al Ghasra and Dinishan shared the third spot with 5.5 points each. Playing black, Maher and Bahadur beat Rouquier Burhan and Daria Carlitos respectively while Al Ghasra and Dinishan split the point in the final round.
