Hurling: CAT FIGHT; Celebrations put on hold as Cody hits out at 'lunatic' Loughnane.
BRIAN Cody led Kilkenny to an unprecedented fifth All-Ireland title in eight seasons yesterday before launching a stinging tirade on Ger Loughnane, who he labelled "a lunatic from Clare."
Galway boss Loughnane referred to Kilkenny's style of defending using words such as "savagery" before the the quarterfinal between the counties in July.
But Cody, who was a college mate of Loughnane in his teens, hit back after yesterday's win.
He said: "There's a lunatic from Clare talking rubbish at the moment.
"I know Ger very well obviously and it's sad to see him descend to that level. Inferiority is what I believe it is, a serious sense of inferiority to descend to that silly talk.
"He is suggesting that we are a dirty team. That's wrong, that's very, very wrong.
"He was an analyst on the Sunday Game for a number of years and he never once uttered those All-Ireland is without a doubt dedicated to Darragh and James and Vanessa McGarry.
"The tragedy shook the whole camp throughout the year, it can never be forgotten and never will be.
"James has been such an inspiration to us his whole hurling career and this year more than ever.
"For Darragh and James we had to deliver."
Cody hailed his players' character for winning through adversity insisting: "We had so many reasons to win this."
