Hunt for 'bloodshot-eye' sex attacker.

A HUNT is underway for a man who sexually assaulted a woman at her home after a night out in Liverpool city centre.

The 21 year-old victim was enjoying an evening with friends in a number of bars on Mathew Street and Concert Square in the early hours of Sunday morning.

At some stage, a man, in his 20s, who was not known to the group, joined them and the two travelled back to her home address in Litherland.

At the house, police said a serious sexual assault took place.

The man left and got into a taxi at around 5.40am to the Kirkby area.

Police have spoken to the cab driver who picked him up who said the man mentioned having a wife or partner in Kirkby.

In another conversation, he talked of having links to Anfield and Norris Green.

The victim will take part in a video interview with specially-trained officers later today.

Police said the woman was traumatised and was being supported by family and friends.

The offender has a number of distinguishing features.

He is white with a tanned complexion, in his late 20s, around 5ft 5ins tall and of stocky build. He had blonde shaved hair and several old-looking injuries to his face, including a bloodshot eye and grazes. He was wearing smart jeans and a black T-shirt.

Detective Inspector Dave Keegan, of Copy Lane CID, urged the public to come forward with information.

And he also appealed to the man, who may recognise himself from the description, to speak to officers.

Det Insp Keegan said: "There is some suggestion they left town quite early in the evening.

"We need to speak to this man as a matter of urgency.

"We think the man left the house at around 5.40am, although the offence may have happened some time prior to that.

"Somebody will know who he is."

Anyone with information should call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 3165 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
