Hungary : Two contracts offered to upgrade Rakos - Hatvan section of Budapest - Miskolc main line.

Hungarian State Railways (MAV) has offered two contracts to upgrade the Rakos - Hatvan part of the Budapest - Miskolc main line.

Strabag Vasutepto and Belfry PE will be tasked to rebuild the Rakos Godollo stretch under a Forints 62bn ($US 249m) contract.

Swietelsky Vasttechnika has won a contract worth Forints 62.5bn to upgrade the Godollo - Hatvan section.

Track will be reconstructed for 100-120km/h operation and the axleload will be raised to 22.5 tonnes. But, proposals to realign curves near Isaszeg and construct a 4km third track on part of the route have been abandoned on cost grounds.

The project comprises the full renewal of electrification, the expansion of Rakosliget station with a further two tracks, and the reconstruction of Isaszeg station, which will lose one track to make way for a new island platform.

With new lighting at stations, stations and stops will be made wheelchair-accessible and platforms, underpasses, overpasses, bridges will be reconstructed. Three new road bridges will also be built.
