Latest Releases in No. 1 Selling Educational CD-ROM

Series Available in August

Humongous Entertainment(R), a leading publisher of best-selling, award-winning children's entertainment products, and Nickelodeon(R), the worldwide entertainment brand that puts kids first, once again bring the distinctive and playful style of Blue's Clues to the world of interactive fun and learning with Blue's Art Time Activities(TM) and Blue's Reading Time Activities(TM). These latest releases in the Blue's Clues series will introduce preschoolers to the basics of art and reading while developing creativity. The titles offer both curriculum-structured learning and the freedom to explore and discover with engaging activities starring old friends like Blue and Steve as well as several new characters.

Based on the most watched preschool show on television, the popular Blue's Clues CD-ROM series, which includes Blue's ABC Time Activities(TM), Blue's Birthday Adventure(TM), Blue's 123 Time Activities(TM) and Blue's Treasure Hunt (TM), has sold more than one million copies since its introduction in 1998. In addition, all four titles have appeared in the top five list for sales of children's educational CD-ROMs and Blue's ABC Time Activities and Blue's Birthday Adventure landed at number one and four respectively in 1998, according to PC Data.

"Our continuing goal with the Blue's Clues CD-ROM series is to offer young children the opportunity to learn from and grow with characters they know and love," said Shelley Day, president and CEO, Humongous Entertainment. "These latest CD-ROMs starring Blue offer new learning adventures that introduce reading and art skills in a familiar format that preschoolers are comfortable with."

"Together with Humongous Entertainment, we have developed Blue's Clues software titles that truly reflect and extend upon the show's unique interactivity and play-to-learn qualities," said Steve Youngwood, vice president, interactive products, Nickelodeon. "Our latest releases are a natural evolution of the series and take the learning process one step further into the realm of creativity."

In Blue's Reading Time Activities, preschoolers work with Blue and Steve to create their own newspaper, the Big News Gazette, while practicing basic reading skills. Players design newspapers by completing reading-based activities such as word matching and interviewing to compile and collect news stories, which are then added to the paper. Reading activities relate to the various newspaper sections and help teach skills such as reading comprehension, word recognition and vocabulary.

Some of the reading activities featured in Blue's Reading Time Activities include Interviews, a choose-your-own-adventure type game, which allows kids to answer questions to create their own stories, and Dictionary, which encourages preschoolers to match words and definitions with pictures in five different scenes such as Back Yard and Beach. Never before seen characters such as Dot, Fan, Sarge Ant and Scanner introduce skills essential to reading in this fun, yet structured, curriculum-based program.

With Blue's Art Time Activities, kids are enlisted to help Blue and her friends prepare for the Really Big Art Show. Preschoolers unleash their imaginations by creating fun arts and crafts projects on the computer including murals, dioramas and invitations to the art show. Their very best masterpiece can be entered into the Really Big Art Show and kids can award a ribbon to their favorite artwork.

In this curriculum-based art program, players gain skills in layout and composition, illustration, design and color mixing and have the option of working in a structured atmosphere by helping the characters with their art projects or let their creative juices flow and discover on their own. Engaging arts and crafts activities include Story Time, where kids help Periwinkle create illustrations for a story and then watch as they are incorporated and animated, and Recycle Town where kids help Blue and Al Luminum gather materials to plan and build a diorama. These plans may also be printed out so children can create the projects at home.

The Blue's Clues television show stars a live-action host named Steve (played by actor Steven Burns) who lives in an animated, storybook setting. In each episode, Steve invites the audience to help him solve the day's puzzles, which come in the form of blue paw print clues left by his energetic, animated girl puppy, Blue.

Innovative and interactive, Blue's Clues encourages its young viewers to play along with the show by presenting them with questions to answer and games to solve. The dialogue and animation in every episode is specially timed so that Steve pauses to "wait" for the kids to answer his questions, direct his next move or discover a clue. Each clue that is found and puzzle that is deciphered helps to build the young audience's confidence while teaching them how to think about various concepts.
