Hughes Network Systems supplies ChinaCast with DIRECWAY broadband satellite system.

Hughes Network Systems, Inc. (HNS), the world's leading provider of broadband satellite solutions, announced today it is providing ChinaCast, one of the leading satellite service operators in China, with a DIRECWAY broadband satellite network including a Network Operations Center (NOC) and DW4020 remote satellite terminals. In addition, the companies signed a strategic relationship agreement to jointly market enterprise networking services in China.

Currently offering satellite services using HNS' one-way broadband terminals, ChinaCast is now able to offer new two-way broadband satellite services to the corporate data network market utilizing the DIRECWAY solution. The new NOC and remote terminals enable ChinaCast to meet the demands of customers in numerous industries, from government agencies to insurance, healthcare, banking and energy.

"In the past, we have provided broadband one-way satellite services to universities, government agencies and ministries. The new DIRECWAY system will help us better address the expanding needs of our customers. ChinaCast has built a strong brand name in the China telecom industry and with HNS' extensive international experience and product excellence, we are confident in providing even better and more expanded services to our customers in the future," said Mr. Ron Chan, CEO of ChinaCast.

Representatives from ChinaCast's existing customers, such as the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Coal, attended the press conference where this announcement was made. Mr. Wang Hongqiao, from the Ministry of Coal, commented, "As an existing customer of ChinaCast, we have been looking forward to the launch of their new two-way satellite system. We believe the new DIRECWAY system will allow our remote branch network offices to better communicate with each other and will also allow us to expand the number of applications such as videoconferencing and voice. We are also happy to hear that ChinaCast has allied with the leading broadband satellite company, Hughes Network Systems, for we feel the partnership is mutually beneficial for both companies as well as for their customers."

Executive Vice President of the International Division at HNS, Mr. Bahram Pourmand, added, "The China market is, without a doubt, one of our largest international markets. Our satellite solutions are widely used to provide connectivity to government agencies, educational institutions and enterprises. Our strategic marketing relationship with ChinaCast allows us to further penetrate the market by drawing upon their extensive knowledge, experience and resources in the local market. It goes without saying that this cooperation is a key step forward for HNS' China strategy."
