Hugh Harris Scholarship winners announced.

* THE NATIONAL DEFENSE Industrial Association Gulf Coast Chapter, in conjunction with NDIA's Targets, Ranges, and UAVs Division, announced this year's winners of the annual Hugh Harris Scholarship Award.

Each winner received a $1,000 award. The scholarship was established in 1992 in honor of Harris, who was a research and development engineer at Eglin Air Force Base. He was recognized throughout the Defense Department and industry for his advanced ideas and contributions in the development of unmanned aerial target vehicle systems.

The winners are: Lauren Foy, Niceville High School, who graduated in the top 2 percent of a class of 531 students. Foy will be attending the University of Florida and will be pursuing a major in big-engineering/biology.

Graham Piburn, Choctawhatchee High School, was a member of the International Baccalaureate Program, National Merit Finalist, president of the National Honor Society and graduated with all "A's" for his four years of high school. Piburn graduated in the top 2 percent of a class of 401 students. He will be attending Rice University in Houston and plans to major in chemistry.

Anthony Nguyen, Choctawhatchee High School, was a member of the National Honor Society, president of Mu Alpha Theta for four years, and a member of the track and field team. Nguyen was a National Merit Commended Scholar and was in the top 2 percent of his class with a 4.88 GPA. He will be attending the University of Florida where he plans to major in physics.

Kyle Schenthal, Fort Walton Beach High School, graduated with a 4.84 GPA and was in the top I percent of a class of 446 students. He will attend Princeton University where he plans to major in chemistry.

Whitney Schmieder, Fort Walton Beach High School, graduated with a 4.8 GPA and was ranked number two in a class of 446 students. She will be attending the University of Florida where she plans to major in mechanical engineering.
