Howmet purchases site for refurbishment.
Howmet Corp has bought a site in North Haven, CT, to build a new facility for the coating, repair and refurbishment of components for jet aircraft engines. The acquisition includes an existing building, which Howmet will use for the coating, repair and refurbishment of blades, vanes and other components for advanced jet aircraft engines. Howmet's new operation is expected to provide state-of-the-art coating services, including chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and advanced repair and reburbishment Services, said David L. Squier, executive vice president. The North Haven facility will further expand Howmet's role in the rapidly growing repair and refurbishment industry, said John Parkinson, VP, Refurbishment & Coating Operations. Another activity of Howmet's Refurbishment & Coating Operations-the Thermatech Coatings Div, Whitehall, Mi-has become a leader in CVD coating, Parkinson said. CVD coating is rapidly replacing older coating methods to protect aircraft engine and other sophisticated components.
