Howey lads show us what we're missing at St James'.
WE all like a stroll down Memory Lane, don't we? That tree-lined boulevard of glorious, warm memories.
That's why it was fun to see Steve Howey's team of the best Premier League superstars he played with in a distinguished career.
Inevitably, there are no fewer than EIGHT of Newcastle's Entertainers in his line-up. The other three are from Manchester City.
Even with those three, I feel Howey has cheated just to stop his team being all Magpies!
I mean Richard Dunne and Sylvain Distin as full-backs. He's picked four central defenders.
Dunne, insists Stevie boy, played games at No 2 while Howey was at Maine Road and before he turned into a carthorse at QPR!
Here is Howey's wonder team: Given; Dunne; Albert; Peacock; Distin; Wright-Philips; Lee; Batty; Ginola; Beardsley; Shearer.
Bearing in mind that Howey, a classy England international, would be in that side if he could have picked himself and you begin to realise the strength in depth United used to have.
Remember, too, the stars that didn't quite get the Howey nod.
Up front alone we have Les Ferdinand, Andy Cole and Nicolas Anelka, who was a team-mate at City.
