How you can thrive by following Obama's lead.

TEESSIDE businesses are being invited to explore how they can follow the US President elect's success in building a brand through the use of social networking sites.

The How To Use Social Networking Sites To Grow Your Business workshop on December 3 will mark the local launch of a new Partners4Business club, which grew out of a series of successful sector-specific events in the North-east, including Partners4Automotive at Sunderland, attended by several Tees Valley firms and Partners4Engineering in Stockton earlier this year.

Organiser Phil Eadon said around 70 Tees Valley companies had been involved in Partners4 events and he wanted to bring them together to share experience and ideas.

Social networking sites were a hot topic, he said. "The trick is to understand how to use these tools to drive business. They are a channel to help you promote your brand and position in the world.

"Obama used it very successfully to get nationwide reach and coverage in certain segments."

Core to all Partners4 events is a speed-dating session for business to swap contacts and commercial leads, which guarantees they don't just become talking shops, said Mr Eadon.

"There are so many networking events in the North-east, but for me they miss the point."
