How tickled I was by Doddy.

Byline: Rachael Bletchly

LUNCHING with the great Sir Ken Dodd, who celebrated his 90th birthday this week, I realised he is a comedy genius as well as a national treasure.

His insights into the psychology of humour, his passion for tweaking our chuckle muscles and his concept of laughter as a "rainbow" of hues made for a fascinating afternoon.

By jove, I'll never eat peach melba again without smiling.

When a waiter brought me one, Sir Ken said: "What a beautiful day for Dame Nellie Melba to drop a choc ice down her tights and say, 'How's that for a knickerbocker glory?'" Happy birthday Doddy!
