How did you do that, chief?

Byline: MIKE LOCKLEY THE MIDLANDS' COLUMNIST OF THE YEAR GETS TO GRIPS WITH LIFE IN THE BIG CITY

BARRY the Brummie was on an American roadtrip and parked-up at a remote bar in the Nevada Desert.

To his surprise, sat in the corner was a native indian in full tribal dress.

"Who is that?" Barry asked the barman.

"He's the Memory Man," replied Mine Host. "Ask him any question on any subject and he'll give you the answer.

Barry decided to try to catch the old man out with a question about English football. "Who won the European Cup in 1982?" he shouted.

"Aston Villa - 1-0," replied the deadplan red indian.

"Who did they beat?" probed Barry.

"Bayern Munich." Barry scratched his head and demanded: "Who got the goal?" "Peter Withe."

Back in Bordesley Green, Barry told everyone about the wise Indian chief - and vowed to one day return and find him.

Ten years later, he tracked the wise man to a cave in the searing heat of the desert. "How!" greeted the Birmingham soccer fan, adopting a traditional welcome.

"Tap-in from a yard out following a cross by Morley," said the indian.
