How alert are they? Mailbag.

I SAW a Trojan horse grazing by Lindley Moor last Thursday.

Inside was a crew of speculative developers, industrial warehousers and retail parkers.

Up for a fight, they were all ready to pillage the green fields in front of them.

Fortunately, the wise citizens of Huddersfield have a defensive plan.

The precious fields have been reserved for a comprehensive development with guarantees to create 2,000 local jobs.

But the horse has assembled a cunning plan to deceive the good people. An application now before Kirklees - in outline only so anything can be changed at any time - paints a greenwash fantasy to develop a 'data campus' on the site.

Presenting selective information, dubious conjecture and unrealistic judgement, it is a trap for the gullible. Against the adopted strategy, and with no merit, a planning professional would reject it instantly.

How alert are our defenders? Will they be dazzled by the horse's glossy coat and throw open the gates to the enemy within? Or will they see through the disguise and burn the effigy to lift the siege? For the good of us citizens, let us hope that our councillors know their history.
