Housewives work 17hrs a week longer.

HOUSEWIVES and househusbands work 17 hours a week MORE than the family breadwinner.

Homemakers on average work a 56-hour week to get their chores done - and a fifth feel undervalued.

The survey by LV= found one in three people who go out to work do think the role of home partner is easy.

Even at minimum wage, paying a homemaker for the hours they put in would cost up to [euro]25,000 a year.

Cooking is the most timeconsuming task. An average of one hour 47 minutes a day is spent preparing meals.

Cleaning takes up just two minutes less, while shopping takes an hour 23 minutes.

Home-bound parents of small children face an extra six hours caring for them.
