House price divide separates Anglesey from Wales' mainland.

IT is just 400 metres across - yet the Menai Strait has the widest gulf in house prices in Wales.

The most expensive and least expensive streets in North Wales lie either side of a strip of water that separates Anglesey from the mainland. Figures have revealed that Telford Road in Menai Bridge was the region's most expensive street last year.

The average house price in Telford Road, which begins at the Anglesey end of the Menai Suspension Bridge, was PS465,667.

The least expensive houses in North Wales based on last year's sales were just across the water in Holyhead Road in Bangor.

The average price in the road, which starts at the Gwynedd end of the Menai Suspension Bridge and is home to a number of large seafront properties, was PS53,125.

The road runs along the Menai Strait offering beautiful views of green fields and water, and continues into Upper Bangor.

However, Holyhead Road is some way above the cheapest street in England and Wales: Grange Street in Burnley, where the average price last year was PS14,500.

The data is from housing transactions registered with the Land Registry between January and December 2013.
