Houllier shares Reds' frustration - but wants them to win 'deserved' title.

FORMER Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier believes the Reds "deserve" to claim the Premier League title - but warned of "great frustration" for supporters.

Liverpool are a record 25 points clear at the summit, and need only two wins from their remaining nine games to win the championship for the first time in 30 years.

The Premier League has been suspended since March 13, due to the coronavirus outbreak, although clubs have committed to resuming the season when it is safe to do so, with June 8 slated as a tentative return date.

And Houllier, who was manager of Liverpool between 1998 and 2004, is desperate for the Reds to be given the opportunity to finish the job.

"I hope they will restart the competition, because Liverpool are just two wins away from a very longawaited and deserved title," he said.

"Too many times have Liverpool finished second, so now they really deserve it - even last year, they finished with 97 points with one defeat."

It's widely expected that games will be played behind closed doors for the remainder of the campaign, and possibly also into the early weeks of next season.

But Houllier, speaking to talkSPORT, wants Reds fans to be allowed into Anfield, should Jurgen Klopp's side win the title.

"Even if we play games behind closed doors, there will be great frustration for Liverpool fans," added the Frenchman. "But I can't see them not being out in the street anyway, just waiting for the players, so maybe it's better to let
