Aloft Hotels Aloft drives growth through urban conversions. Aloft Hotels' development pipeline is regaining momentum after the recession as it shifts its focus toward conversion projects in urban areas. Brian McGuinness, a senior vice president at Aloft's parent firm Starwood Hotels, says the brand could see the opening of its 100th hotel by the end of 2014. Aloft has 20 properties in its U.S. pipeline. Oct 7, 2013

Hyatt Hotels Hyatt Hotels will open two Hyatt-branded hotels in Tanzania in the next four years. Expected to be completed in time for TanzaniaOs Zanzibar Revolution Day in January 2014, the 72-room Park Hyatt Zanzibar will be located on an UNESCO heritage site in the historic part of Zanzibar City known as Stone Town, where guests will have unrestricted, direct access to the beachfront. Initial construction began on the site earlier this year. Slated to open in 2016, the 144-room Hyatt Regency Arusha will be set on a 29-acre site in central Arusha in northern Tanzania. The property will offer close proximity to famous African landscapes and national parks, including Tarangire National Park and Mount Kilimanjaro. The new properties will join six Hyatt-branded hotels currently located in Africa. Oct 10, 2013

IHG Hotels IHG signs 5-hotel franchise deal in Germany. InterContinental Hotels Group has reached a multiple-development franchise agreement with Bierwirth & Kluth Hotel Management for the construction of five hotels in Germany. The agreement furthers IHG's goal of doubling its hotel footprint in Germany by 2020. The first hotel to open under the agreement will be the 297-room Holiday Inn Hamburg -- City Nord, which is set to open in the third quarter of 2016. Oct 8, 2013

Marriott Hotels Developer Robert Finvarb Companies has a 150-room AC Hotels by Marriott property in its pipeline in Miami Beach, Fla., the company's website shows. "The project will combine a distinct European style with simple, clean and crisp lines to reflect the uniqueness of the brand within the dynamic global destination that is Miami Beach," the developer says on its website.
