WINTER warmers and kids' favourites are essential ingredients for any Bonfire Night menu.

Here's two ideas to keep your hungry brood happy.

SAUSAGES WHETHER you're having everyone round at yours or you're looking for a quick tea before you go to a fireworks display, here's a recipe for Chilli Dogs from www.goodtoknow.co.uk that's perfect for Bonfire Night.

You'll need: 8 good-quality sausages; 2 red peppers, sliced; 1 red onion, sliced; 250ml (8 fl oz) passata; 4 large hotdog rolls; 2tbsp olive oil; 4 garlic cloves, sliced; 1 pinch of chilli powder; 2tsp cumin seeds, crushed.

Method: Cook onion and pepper in the oil for 5 mins until they start to char. Reduce heat, add garlic and spices and cook for a further 2 mins. Pour in passata and 150ml water, bring to the boil and simmer for 10 mins.

Grill the sausages for 10 mins until cooked. Split rolls and fill with sauce and sausages. TOFFEE APPLES THEY'RE sticky and sweet - and you can make them yourself.

You'll need: 6 Granny Smith apples, 6 wooden ice lolly sticks, 4 (100g) packets original toffee, 2 tbsp water, ' tsp vanilla extract.

Method: Insert wooden sticks 3/4 of the way into the stem end of each apple. Place apples on a baking tray lined with lightly greased aluminium foil.

Combine toffee, water and vanilla in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring often, until toffee melts and is smooth. Dip each apple into the toffee and gently run apples around inside of saucepan to scrape off some of the toffee. Place on the aluminium foil and chill until ready to serve.
