Hot news, Derek's back.

RICKY Gervais' character Derek puts his feet up with a good read while he waits for his second series to start.

Comedy drama Derek, based in a care home where characters are in their final years, is back later this month. But Ricky, 52, has revealed he faced up to his own death as a child.

He said: "I think everyone thinks of their own mortality. I've been thinking about it since I was eight or nine.

"I only worry about how you die. My mum died of lung cancer and that's just about the worst thing you can have, it's a horrible way to go. I don't even think of how people will think of me when I die. It's meaningless."

The comedian also told how he used the show to try to change the way elderly people are portrayed on TV.

He said: "I wanted to pull the rug from under people.

"Just because you're 90, you don't stop thinking like a 25-year-old."

Derek returns to Channel 4 on April 23 at 10pm.
