SUNSHINE can do bad things to coloured hair.

Not only do colours fade in bright sunlight, but hair already damaged by colouring has a tendency to dry out and frizz.

Invest in a protective spray with UV filters and hair care that puts something back. The new range from Toni& Guy, simply called Colour, is a range of shampoos, conditioners and styling products that all contain what the company calls Level One Dye Technology. Put simply, the products infuse hair with colour, a bit like the gradual skin tanners that build up a light tan.

There's a collection for brunettes and another for blondes. How does it work? According to Toni& Guy, 'on contact with the hair shaft, small droplets of colour are deposited on the surface - leaving a subtle infusion of semi-permanent pigment.' Priced from pounds 4.88 to pounds 6.84.

. Colour protectors are ideal for use on the beach or by the pool. Find one that also imparts gloss and condition and it's a must for holiday wear. The S-Factor Papaya Leave-in Moisture Spray, pounds 13.50, promises lightweight moisturising, shine boosters and UV filters.. A good bronzing powder is every woman's key cosmetic product for summer. It may be all you need on top of moisturiser, if you want to give foundation a miss. However, to get even coverage either use an oil-free moisturiser or whisk a dusting of translucent powder over the face before applying bronzer. Estee Lauder has a Bronze Goddess Soft Matte Bronzer (pounds 24.47) with wide brush. Many bronzers come with a brush that is too small. It's better to buy a separate large brush and use the less is more principle when applying.
