Hot chili spots.

The March issue of Bon Appetit magazine includes 10 hot places from coast to coast for a bowl of comforting chili in a range of styles - beans or no beans, mild or hot, ground or chunks of beef - to suit a variety of tastes. Chili My Soul, Encino, offering a dozen different chilis daily with various levels of heat, made the cut. Among the other chili joints included: Ben's Chili Bowl, Washington, D.C., Joe Rogers' Original Recipe Chili Parlor, Springfield, Ill., Slim's Last Chance, Seattle, Daisy May's BBQ USA, New York, Camp Washington Chili, Cincinnati, All Star Sandwich Bar, Cambridge, Mass., Tomasita's, Santa Fe, N.M., Tolbert's Restaurant, Grapevine, Texas, and Big Bad Breakfast, Oxford, Miss.

More cookies

Pepperidge Farm has expanded its cookie line to include 100 Calorie Milano cookies and Crunchy Granola. The Milano cookies, packed five pouches (with two cookies each) to a box, come in Original (dark chocolate) and Milk Chocolate varieties with each 100-calorie pouch containing 4.5 grams fat and 35 milligrams sodium. Retail is $2.99 per box.

The Granola are available in chewy flavors - Fruit & Nut or Trail Mix - or crunchy flavors - Triple Nut or Dark Chocolate Almond. Each large cookie (one serving) ranges from 130 to 140 calories, 6 to 8 grams fat and 65 to 95 milligrams sodium. Packed in 7.2- to 8.6-ounce bags, retail is $3.59 each. At supermarkets and Target.
