Hot buttered drink mix.

Vanilla ice cream is the base of this spice-flavored mix, made easily in a blender or food processor. Keep the mix in the freezer, ready to season hot drinks for drop-in guests. 1 pint vanilla ice cream, softened 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 teaspoon each ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg 1 cup (1/2 lb.) butter or magazine, melted Rum or apple juice Boiling water Cinnamon sticks (each about 4 in. long)

In a blender or food processor, blend ice cream, sugar, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth, stopping motor occasionally to scrape sides of container. With motor running, pour in butter in a steady stream and blend until incorporated.

Scrape mixture into a 3- to 4-cup freezer container. Use at once, or freeze, tightly covered, up to 1 month; let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to soften before using.

To serve, spoon 2 tablespoons spiced drink mix into each mug. Add 3 tablespoons rum or apple juice and 1/2 cup boiling water; stir and serve with a cinnamon stick. Makes 24 servings.
