Hosts of Heed as strong as an Ox; MEN'S HOCKEY.

GATESHEAD lost 4-0 at Premier Hockey League favourites Oxon.

The game started with Oxon putting the Gateshead defence under early pressure.

However, Gateshead held firm and frustrated the hosts for long periods It was midway through the half before Oxon broke the deadlock from a welldrilled short corner. Gateshead continued to soak up the pressure from the Oxon forwards and looked as if they were going to hold the home side until half-time.

However, a wicket deflection saw Oxon increase their advantage just before half-time.

Gateshead played with confidence in the second period, started to take the game to Oxon and were unlucky not to pull a goal back.

The visitors continued to frustrated Oxon and limited their forwards' opportunities.

However, in the last 10 minutes the hosts broke through from a excellent field goal and a welldrilled short corner and ran out worthy winners. | WHITLEY Bay and Tynemouth's senior men's side drew 3-3 with York at North Shields.

The hosts opened the scoring from a penalty corner from Ithurralde and then doubled their lead moments later when Titmus finished off a fine team move.

York pulled a goal back with a low drag flick from a penalty corner.

They equalised after the break before Murray Fotheringham put Bay back in the lead.

York then levelled again from another penalty corner.
