Hospital team's apps are shortlisted for honour.

A LEADING consultant and his team of experts have been shortlisted for a national award for developing a range of tabletbased apps.

The group at the colorectal surgical unit in Merthyr's Prince Charles Hospital are set to be recognised for their excellence in gastroenterology at The Shire Award for Gastrointestinal Excellence (SAGE).

They have developed four fully interactive apps which are currently available for free worldwide download on iOS platform through the App Store, with more than 5,000 downloads worldwide to date.

The project aimed to improve and modernise patient counselling and staff education both within the unit as well as nationally and internationally.

Professor Puthucode Haray who leads the unit said: "It is wonderful to be shortlisted for this prestigious national award, which specifically rewards developments in gastroenterology.

"Obviously, I believe that these apps are a great innovation, but it is very gratifying to see that others feel the same way.

"The shortlisted teams are to be interviewed at the end of April and I am very hopeful that we'll make it to the finals in June!" The winners of the award will be announced in June.
