Hospice in plea for pounds 2m; High Sheriff pays a surprise visit to children of Claire House.

THE children of Wirral's ClaireHouse Hospice received a surprise yesterday when the High Sheriffof Merseyside came to visit -in full regalia.

Dr Robert Alley had raised money for the charity on a golf day and was invited to look around the hospice so he was able to see the work that they do.

Janet Croker, head of appeals, said: ``It was great for the children to see the High Sheriff in full regalia.''

This year, the hospice needs to raise pounds 1.5m for its running costs. It has also launched an appeal for anew teenage wing and is hoping to raise pounds 2m. To makeadonation, call 0151-343 0883.
