Horse Racing: Weatherbys' new pedigree service tailor-made for all in industry; BLOODSTOCK DESK.

Byline: By Nancy Sexton

HOURS spent filling in catalogue pages with additional pedigree notes during the heavily congested sales season may have become a thing of the past, thanks to Weatherbys Bloodstock Services.

The company has recently launched the Tailormade Pedigree, complementing a reports range which already includes mating plans, sales reports, leading lists and sire statistics.

Using the latest racing and breeding information, direct from the Weatherbys database, the Tailormade Pedigree is a new tool designed to aid all members of the bloodstock industry, allowing customers to incorporate information of their choice into a pedigree.

"No two people have the same view of what the ideal pedigree is," says Antony Murray, manager of bloodstock services at Weatherbys. "So, instead of us producing ten different pedigrees, this allows people to tailor-make their own."

For instance, a standard catalogue page can be transformed to include the breeding, sales prices, European ratings, winning distances and detailed race records of any horse who appears in the pedigree.

The trainer of the horse, inbreeding and nicking can also be added, while there is no limit to the number of dams who can be included. Each piece of information is colour coded; for example, sales records are illustrated in red, European ratings in blue, and trainers names in green.

Of particular use to owners of broodmares is the option to include the covering sires, foals, yearlings and two-year-olds under every daughter of the first dam. In addition, there is also the option to add a detailed sire reference that covers the best progeny, sales averages and European statistics, such as the number of winners by season, winners-to-runners percentage and prize-money won.

"We've had good feedback from it already, and we're very hopeful that it will be a great success," says Murray. "And the great thing about it is that it's flexible enough for us to add new options as we go along."

The Tailormade Pedigree can be accessed by visiting, and can be ordered through three simple steps. As with other reports in the bloodstock range, no charge is incurred until the report is viewed.

The cost starts at pounds 13 for the base model and rises to pounds 40 if every option is ticked. However, Weatherbys are offering one Tailormade Pedigree to customers free of charge up to September 30.
