Horse Racing: The best sporting night out.

Byline: BRUCE MILLINGTON

IF you have never been to the darts, go. It's ruddy excellent (wonder if the guy who keeps writing in to say there is too much swearing in this column will allow 'ruddy'. He bizarrely objected to 'poxy').

I was reminded what a nearfaultless night out darts represents on Saturday when it was my pleasure to be at the Circus Tavern to see the Power in all his glory.

The format is brutally simple and spectacularly effective.

Beer, cider, alcopops (not that anyone ever calls them that), burgers, chips, a cracking atmosphere, and the satisfyingly rhythmic darts itself, a continuously fascinating game that ebbs and flows and is never short of bewilderingly superb displays of awesome hand-eye coordination.

And, more than ever, it's apparent that lady arrers fans are lapping it up. At the Tavern the proportion of females to males was about as high as at any sporting event I can remember attending.

The Premier League starts tonight and may well be coming to a venue near you. If you've never been and are able to go, I urge you to do so.
