Horse Racing: Legend looks lively as King abdicates; DUKE AND SOLDIER CHASE THE GLORY IN PARIS.
THE Jessica Harringtontrained Knight Legend landed the featured Grade 2 Gowran Park Champion Chase at Gowran Park yesterday.
The two-and-a-half mile contest witnessed the return to action of the 2005 Gold hero Kicking King but he exited at the third and Knight Legend was never troubled by any of his rivals.
Andrew Leigh's mount made all the running and overcame a mistake at the second last to defeat Light On The Broom by a dozen lengths.
"He did it well and jumped very well most of the time but he was out on his own a long time," reported the winning trainer.
"He'll keep going in these conditions chases and might run next over two miles and six furlongs at Punchestown later this month."
Earlier, First In Line looked a useful jumper in the making when he made a winning debut over timber in the three-year-old hurdle for Niall Madden and Alan Crowe.
The maiden hurdle fell to South Upper Street who got the better of Browns Baily to score for John Kiely and Andrew McNamara.
Mudslinger looked poised to collect the handicap hurdle coming to the last but a mistake at the flight handed the initiative to the Philip Enrightridden De La Rue who prevailed by a neck.
